Mono No Aware

2025 - 2026

“The gentle sadness of knowing everything beautiful is temporary, and loving it more because it will not last.”

A series of 23 hand printed gelatin silver photographs. This work began as a response to how the body is seen, and how that seeing can shift through trust, time, and proximity. Made within the lived-in homes of the women, the images emerge from a shared space between photographer and subject, where the camera is present but not imposed.

The darkroom process becomes an extension of this encounter. Through repetition, touch, and time, each print is fixed by hand, holding not only the photographed moment but the time spent with it.

The title draws from Mono no aware, an awareness of the passing of things, and the quiet weight of what is felt in their presence. What remains is not a record, but a trace.
